THE ASHFIELD
The Ashfield Bedroom, featuring a luxurious double bed, is inspired by the historic Ashfield residence in Otley.
Built in 1816 by Jonathan Chadwick, the grand estate later became home to Colonel W. Stopham Dawson before serving as a WWII training centre for Merchant Navy radio officers. In 1948, it was purchased by Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd., eventually becoming a Tetley’s Brewery hotel in the mid-1950s.
Our Ashfield room pays tribute to this rich legacy, blending timeless heritage with modern design. Finished to the highest standard, it offers a perfect mix of history, comfort, and contemporary elegance for a memorable stay.
THE BLUE BELL
The Blue Bell Bedroom, with its elegant double bed, is named in honour of a historic Otley inn that once stood on Manor Square.
Dating back to at least 1822, the Blue Bell was run by licensee William Pawson and featured stables and a brewhouse accessed from what is now part of Manor Square. The inn closed in 1928 when its licence was not renewed, later becoming a confectioner’s shop and eventually part of a bank.
Though the original building is no longer in use, our Blue Bell room keeps its memory alive with high-quality finishes and timeless, comfortable design.
THE NEW INN
The New Inn Bedroom, featuring a beautifully appointed double bed, is named after one of Otley’s long-standing historic pubs, once located at 32–34 Market Place beside the Black Bull.
First recorded in 1822, it saw generations of landlords, including the Dawson and Holmes families, and was a key part of the local community. With stables and a brewhouse, it thrived until the 1980s, when Tetley’s plans to redevelop it led to its closure.
Our New Inn room honours this rich legacy, blending classic charm with modern comfort and high-quality finishes, offering a unique stay steeped in the history of Otley.
THE WOOLPACK
The Woolpack Bedroom, complete with a comfortable double bed, is named after one of Otley’s oldest and most storied pubs.
Originally an 18th-century dwelling, it became an inn in the early 1700s, first known as The Fox and Hounds. By the early 1800s, it was renamed The Kings Arms, and later The Woolpack before 1834.
Once occupying a much larger area east of Bondgate, it played a significant role in Otley’s pub history. With a long list of colourful landlords, The Woolpack stood as a vibrant social hub.
Our room honours this legacy with timeless design, modern comfort, and historic charm.
THE TRAVELLERS REST
The Travellers Rest Bedroom, featuring a luxurious double bed, is named after a short-lived but memorable Otley inn.
First licensed in 1853, the Travellers Rest was run by the Yates family until its closure in 1884. Though it operated for just 31 years, it left a lasting legacy in local folklore. A disagreement between the inn’s landlady and a regular patron gave rise to the humorous nicknames “The Spite” and “T’Malice,” which are still fondly remembered today.
Our Travellers Rest room pays tribute to this colourful past, combining historical charm with modern comfort and high-quality design for a unique and relaxing stay.
THE SUMMER CROSS
The Summer Cross Bedroom is a beautifully designed twin room, named after the historic Summer Cross Hotel once located on Pool Road in Otley.
Built around 1841 on land known as Summer Cross Close, the hotel served as a convenient stop for farmers looking to avoid turnpike tolls in the 19th century. Originally the site of Busk House and later Summer Cross Cottage, it became a lively inn with a rich history of residents and innkeepers, as detailed in census records from 1841 to 1911.
Our room honours this legacy with high-quality finishes, stylish design, and a comfortable space perfect for two.
THE CARPENTERS ARMS
The Carpenters Arms Bedroom is a charming twin room inspired by one of Otley’s oldest pubs. Originally known as The Carpenters Arms, it operated until the early 1830s before being renamed the Wharfedale Inn.
Though it closed in 1907, the building continued as a lodging house and refreshment rooms, with its original wooden seating preserved for years. Believed to be over 400 years old, it was demolished in 1934 to make way for Crossgate and the bus station.
Our Carpenters Arms room honours this rich heritage with thoughtful design, comfortable twin beds, and high-quality finishes that echo the warmth of its past.
